| 2000–2001: Six months (unpaid) as Agent to Anne Campbell MP. | |
| 1996–2000: Four years at ARM as a Principal Software Engineer in the unit that produced the ARM Developer Suite, doing software configuration management. My main task was to design and implement a multi-product, multi-platform automated build system and to manage the process of producing regular, repeatable product builds. I was responsible for administering a large CVS source code repository and coordinating its use (including decisions over branching and merging) by several project teams with conflicting aims. I also designed and implemented product installer programs for Windows and Unix, and designed the workflow for the bug-tracking system. | |
| 1989–1996: Seven years at Harlequin working on the Harlequin RIP, a PostScript-compatible interpreter optimised for high-resolution output. This time included: five years as a software developer and maintainer, with periods doing release engineering and bug triage; six months managing a new division of the (then fairly small) company; a year and a half doing technical support, including recruiting staff and building a team. I spent more than a year at the Cambridge, Massachusetts office. | |
| 1984–1988: Four years at Topexpress Ltd, where I learned a great deal about how to design and write software. I worked on a wide variety of projects including the design and implementaton of code generators and debuggers (one of which was the very earliest version of a symbolic debugger for C programs on the ARM processor). | |
| 1982–1984: Two years at Aries Computers. I wrote a Z80 assembler and used it to develop a data communications program. As Aries was a very small company I also performed many general business management tasks, and I learned a lot from this. | |
| 1981–1982 A year at CICS (part of the Torch group) writing an application in BCPL on a CP/M system. | |
